AGM & SPRING CONFERENCE

The Society’s Spring Conference will take place on Saturday, 4th May 2024, from 11:30 – 16:30, at the Links Hotel in Montrose.
Speakers will include David Orr, Nick Evans, Fiona Campbell-Howes, Simon Taylor, Thomas Clancy, and Jake King. Papers will cover a wide range of topics, including: Edith Marnie and her work in the Angus Glens; Place-names and their significance for social structures in medieval Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire; In civitate nrurim: Where did the last king of Picts die?; Hall-names in Scotland: animal, vegetable and mineral (in Scots); St Cyrus/Ecclesgreig and the dating and context of Scottish Eccles- names, and Coilltean Caillte – Forgotten Woodlands of Scotland’.
Tickets are available at the price of £28, which includes entrance to all talks, tea & biscuits, and a buffet lunch.
NB: Full-time students pay a reduced entrance fee of £15, but may also be eligible to apply for a travel bursary from the Society to help with costs.

Membership of the Society is not required in order to attend the conference, however please consider taking advantage of the Society’s special offer – Conference Ticket + 1-year Membership for the price of £33. The conference will be preceded by the Society’s Annual General Meeting, which will be held from 10:30 to 11:30. All members are welcome to attend. The materials to be discussed at the AGM, including a voting form for those who cannot be there in person, have been posted on the AGM page of the SPNS website.

STUDENT TRAVEL BURSARY - CULTURAL CONTACTS FUND
Travel grants of up to £200 may be available for helping students who have been invited to speak at SPNS conferences, or who will be presenting papers on Scottish onomastic topics at international conferences.
